What's Up, Y'all??

Has it really been this long since I've written in my blog? Wowzers. I've been crazy busy lately with school and work and everything else I've been doing. And, man am I happy that school is almost over. Which means my sister will be coming home from college! I'm so excited to see her :)

Update on my book: I am almost done, but I'm at a standstill right now, working on other projects. During one of my classes, I have started another story. I write in tiny, tiny font (3 lines of text per lined-paper line (if that makes sense (and another parentheses))). I've also been working on poems a lot. I just posted a new poem on my Poems Page, by the way.

So, exciting news! A couple days ago, I got an email from the university with news of the week (which I usually never read, but decided to that day). I clicked on a link and submitted an application to be a seatfiller at the American Country Awards on December 5th right here in Las Vegas! And I got accepted!!! I am so stoked and I get to go with my best friend Brittany! I love love love country music and Kristin Chenoweth is one of the hosts! I'll let you know how that goes!

I hope you have a great great week and are prepared for winter!!

God Bless,
Terina

New Page

So, instead of taking space up on my main blog page, I have created a new page to display my poems. You should still be able to leave comments (and I would really appreciate if you did). I will be adding some new poems soon, but I will also post that so you can know when they come out! Hope you enjoy and are having a great day!

Seasons of Love

Surprise! Another poem!

Seasons of Love
Temperatures cooler
Colors change the trees
Leaves fall
And the memory of summer flees.

My dear love
You have left me so
Standing here alone
Amidst the falling snow.

I have forgotten
Yet you come back for me
Running through the flowers
You are the only one I see.

Heat scorches the sky
Summer sun beats down
I'm standing with you here
In my beautiful white gown.

Back to cool weather
I stand looking at this tree
You will never leave me again
This memory will never flee.

Runaway

Another poem. Enjoy!

Runaway
A girl stands alone
Her toes in the sand
A pebble in one hand

The pebble isn't the answer
She knows this is true
She knows not what to do

The boy at home disturbs her thoughts
Takes her away from this
The opportunities she'll miss

The pebble splashes the water
Droplets splash her legs
The life she's missing begs

One thought enters her mind
She's running away
Running on this very day.

Seal Dreamin'

Another original poem story by Terina. I came up with it at work. I don't know what it means, but it's pretty cute. Here ya go!

Seal Dreamin'
I'm swimming through an ocean of dreams,
Fishing through what's real.
"Keep swimming," I tell myself,
When I happen upon a little seal.

"Help me," he cried,
Tears streaming down his skin.
"I don't understand,
Why am I missing a fin?"

"Oh, poor little seal,
Come on over here."
He flops over
As I rub his little ears.

"Now, now, little seal,"
As his tears keep streaming.
I don't believe this is real.
I know I must be dreaming.

I rub the seal's head and say,
"A fin is what you lack."
Acting as a fairy, I say,
"Now your fin will grow back!"

"Did it work, did it work?"
The seal asks eagerly.
Disappointed in myself,
I decide to look heavenly.

"Little seal, little seal,
What shall we do?"
I get an idea and exclaim,
"This is what makes you, you!"

"What do you mean?
I can't do any special tricks.
All the other seals," he cries,
"Can swim and play and do flips."

"You're very special,"
I tell the little seal.
"Your mouth, your mouth," I point.
"Tell me what you feel!"

"My tongue?" the seal answers,
And sticks his big tongue out.
"Your voice, little seal,
Now don't sit around and pout!"

"You can talk, little seal,
That's what you can do!
You may be missing a fin,
But this is very special, too!"

"Use your voice, say it loud.
Tell them how you came to be.
And when you're done,
Please come and visit me!"

I open my eyes.
My dream is now done.
I open the curtains to reveal
Glints of a rising sun.

"Thanks for your help!"
I hear the seal's voice in my head.
Feeling satisfied,
I fall back into my bed.

Maybe you're the little seal
Waiting for someone like me
To come along and help you
Meander through life's open sea.

Tell me how you like it!

Original Poem by Terina

The following poem is the first thing I see when I open my writing composition book. It does not reflect my life, as some may think; it is just a poem I came up with. Enjoy!

Falling
You're looking at me,
I'm looking at you.
Could it be true?
Am I really falling for you?

We are best friends,
But now things have changed.
I'm falling in love with you,
My life is being rearranged.

I'm falling for you even more.
Thoughts race through my head.
And I realize who you're looking at:
It's the girl behind me instead.

I am so sorry! Major update!

Wow, how long has it been? Like forever! I have a lot of stuff to update on!
1) Camp!
It's been like super long since I have been there! I worked at a church camp in Big Bear, CA and it was pretty awesome! It was kinda hot and when we had to go play team recreation outside during the hottest part of the day, it was miserable. Everyone had to be super spirited, do crazy cheers and be all sweaty and nasty. There were also tons of flies! I did learn a couple of cheer moves at camp and even lifted a girl up in the air! The whole Rice Krispies team (boys and girls) did a 5 tier pyramid also; that was pretty awesome! I saw a lot of girls come to Christ, or at least come closer, and I even saw a change in myself. Being without Facebook or anything for a week really changes your life.

2) Trip Across America!
This summer, my mom, sister and I took a trip from Las Vegas all the way across I-40 for 30 some odd hours to Tennessee to drop my sister off at college. Those were the longest 3 days of my life! At the same time however, it seemed like we took a trip to California every day. I lucked out and didn't have to drive (Random Fact #53 about Terina: she hates to drive). My sister drove for about a total of 3 hours and my mom drove the rest. We played music, played Mad Libs, listened to Maximum Ride on CD and just had fun.
Before we had left for the trip, I had scoured the internet looking for fun things to do along I-40. Nothing that interesting popped up. However, on our trip, we found tons of fun things! One of the fun things we passed was Cadillac Ranch outside Amarillo, TX. This is the place where 10 old Cadillacs are half-buried in the ground. What I didn't know was that you can actually spray paint the cars! Check it out!
Me, Paige and my mom inside a car at Cadillac Ranch
    Cadillac Ranch

Another cool thing we saw right past Amarillo was the largest cross in the northern hemisphere. I never got the exact dimensions of it, but it was pretty awesome. They had the stations that Christ went through from being arrested to the cross. They had the table of the Last Supper, Calvary, and even the tomb.

That is Paige and I standing at the bottom of the cross.

The states we drove through on the way to Tennessee were Nevada (of course), Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee. It was really fun but I would never want to do that drive again!

3) Two weeks before school started up, my dad and I took a spontaneous trip to California. We wanted to go to the beach and be in the nice cool air. The first day we drove down there, we headed straight to Newport Beach. The flag that day was yellow and the waves were terrible. I caught about one ride on my boogie board. My dad and I decided we wanted to "think for a little bit" (aka sleep). We both laid down on our boogie boards, put our towels over our heads and fell asleep for about 45 minutes. This was a very bad idea. I got a third degree burn on my wrist, bad burns on the top of my feet, and a terrible tan line on my thighs from my wetsuit.
The next day, my dad took me to the Santa Monica Pier and Venice beach, neither of which I had ever been to. It was pretty cool, but we had probably walked 6 miles and my feet were killing me. I got another sunburn too. After that, we went back to Newport Beach. The flag was red this time, but we decided to go out anyways because we are both advanced swimmers and we had boards. The sand in the water kept getting deep and shallow and deep and shallow. After about an hour, a lifeguard ran out and called us out of the water because the rip tides were really bad, so that day was a bust. That night, we went to a tennis clinic in Long Beach and I played amazing!
The next day, Wednesday, we had to go back home because I had a tennis match that night. That morning we went to the Wedge in Balboa. The Wedge is where they had 25 foot waves two years ago! When I was there, there were about 6 foot waves and they were way powerful! Check out this video I took on my phone. The waves look small at first, but pay attention to the surfer.

NOW:
I have started back school and I think I'm going to do good this year. I am really excited because I am taking a jazz dance class. It was awesome yesterday and I hope I get a good workout from it.
I have been working on my book, too. There are some very interesting twists and turns, that's for sure! I am almost out of paper in my original composition notebook, so I will have to get a new one soon! Wish me luck!

I promise I won't take so long to update next time! Ciao!

I need to get motivated! Help me!

-My plan late this semester was to write 1,000 words a week in my book. That way, I will get done sooner. 1,000 words may sound like a lot, but it really isn't. That's about five, one-sided pages in my composition book (since I usually write around 200 words a page). Good news is that I have written recently. I'm just not sure about a turn in the book. Can't tell you what it is, but it is definitely a game-changer.-

-My ankle is still bummed. It sucks. Bad. I go to watch my mom play tennis (she and I are on the same team) and it kills me not to play. However, it is still bruised and I don't want it to become a chronic injury. I think I am going to try to play in 2 weeks, when I go back to clinic again.-

-Brittany, April and I are throwing a pool party for our small group girls on Friday. I bought all the goodies for the party. Some girls have had birthdays recently and a few are moving up from middle school to high school. Eeps!-

-In 2 weeks, I am going to be helping at the 6th-12th grade camp through church. It will be my first time kind of away from my family for a long time. I have only been to camp once and that was in the summer before 5th grade. This will be a lot different! But I'm really excited. Not excited about the first day, though. I have to be at the meeting place at 0400 (that's right, I'm writing in military time). The kids don't arrive there until 0430, but the leaders have to be there to set up. Then we have the 3 1/2 hour drive to the camp. We have activities all day and lights out is at 2300! That is a long day!
The themes for the cabins at camp are cereal brands (opposed to energy drinks, like they have been in previous years). I am not sure who my co-leader is yet, who I am leading or what my cereal brand is yet. I thought that the cereal, Kix, would be a pretty kickin' name for a cabin. I also heard that the camp gives you a theme you have to decorate your cabin as (last year, there was Tropical Justin Beiber). That should be pretty fun and I hope that my co-leader and I will be able to win!-

-So, as you may not know, I don't like very many drinks at Starbucks. I usually just get a Banana Walnut Loaf and a Venti Ice Water (Starbucks water is triple filtered and it tastes really good!). Every once in a while, I might have gotten a Vanilla Bean Frapuccino (I'm not really sure how to spell that?), but it wasn't my favorite drink.
Now I have a favorite drink! It is the Mocha Coconut Frapuccino! I absolutely adore coconut and chocolate, so this is just the perfect drink for me. The drink tastes mostly like these two flavors, with just a tiny hint of mocha. Of course, I am already an extremely hyper person, so mocha doesn't usually sit too well with me. But, hey, I now have a drink for when I meet my friends at Starbucks, I don't have to be a weirdo and get a water.-

-I hope you all have a great week! Tell your friends about my blog! :P

Another week, another week closer to summer

So I'm pretty sure a lot has happened in the past week. Let's see:
Tuesday: I went to tennis practice (and was playing really good, by the way) and extremely sprained my ankle. I couldn't walk on it for two days! It is slowly getting better and now I can walk on it pretty well.
Saturday: We had a garage sale at my second-mom, Sue's, house (my sister and I call her our second mom because she is our mom's best friend and we see her all the time). It worked out pretty well. We brought Riley along and she was fairly well behaved. Sue has all these desert tortoises so we were playing with them as well! Below is a picture of one of the babies I named Jello :)
Right before I took the picture, s/he was sleeping when I was petting its head (you can't tell whether they are male or female until they are older). Sue also has two adult turtles, Myrtle (who's actually a girl) and Lefty (who is a male that's really mean).
Sunday: I had church in the morning, then a graduation party, and later that night, small group. For those of you that don't know, I help lead at a 6th-12th grade small group at church called Refuge. I co-lead with April and Brittany. My sister came for the first time and she really enjoyed it. We went to In-n-out afterwards with almost everybody from church (my church has this crazed obsession over In-n-out!). It was really fun and I was cracking jokes almost every minute!

So, as you can see, my week has been interesting and I'm sure it will be even more this next week. I start a class next week (June 6) on how to make iPhone apps. That should be interesting/hard.
I hope you have a great week and I'll keep you updated on my book!

Wizard of Oz and My Puppy

I saw Wizard of Oz on Saturday and that was really good for a local production. My friend Sue and I made the mistake of going to the wrong amphitheater, but we eventually found the right one. They did not make any set pieces (well, maybe a few) and used a big projection screen for the scenery. It was...interesting, to say the least. If you have ever seen a Tuacahn production (in St. George, UT), then this was a let-down.

Today, my dad and I were out and about and we decided to take my puppy Riley. She is 9 months old and a sweet, little lover.
She was chewing on a bully stick when I took this picture (FYI, a bull pizzle). Anyways, we took her around today and now her butt is all black from sitting on pavement. Then, we took her to the dog park with little, nasty, nippy dogs and I didn't like it. Now she's pooped.
That's all for now folks! Ciao!

Funny, Angry Day

Well, my day was fairly interesting today.
First, I saw a play at my sister's school. "Brigadoon" is what it was called. It was funny, except for the fact that the microphones weren't working properly. There were several funny accidents that happened during the play. The funniest of them all was a girl's microphone pack fell off, here shirt started coming unbuttoned, they were doing a dance routine, and then at the end of the scene, here skirt fell down! Good thing she had on tights!!

I don't know how many people out there like ANTM (America's Next Top Model), but I'm pretty much addicted. However, I always watch it a few days late because I have other shows recording on my DVR. This week was the finale and I was so disappointed when I found out who won! I really wanted the other girl to win (I won't say who is who because I don't want to spoil it). I'm not sure why I liked her more, but I did.

I'm off to bed now for another exciting Friday tomorrow. On Saturday, I am seeing Wizard of Oz and I am so excited! I'll let you know how it is! Ta ta for now!

Rainy day :(

It's an extremely strange day in las Vegas today. Middle of may and raining. I believe it's all my fault, however. See, I washed my car on Monday (which I hardly ever do) and BOOM! Nasty that night and the next two days.
One good thing about rainy days is all the time I get to write in my book! I typed up a little bit yesterday. I'm at 35 pages on Microsoft Word, if that's any indication of how long it is.
I also hung out with my friend Brittany today. We went to Tropical Smoothie and talked for 3 1/2 hours!

Preview of my book

Below is a preview of my book! Hope you like it!

Escaping is not an easy task. For one, I’m leaving thousands of people I love behind. Second, I have about a dozen high-powered killing machines aimed at my head. I thought I was being smart by fleeing into the dense woods of Kilgalon at night, but I guess my planning skills weren't the best.
"You are the worst plan-maker, Ellabee," my partner-in-crime, Nickoy, whispers as we run as if our lives depend on it (which they do).
"You didn't have to come. I’m a big girl, I can handle it," I pant as we sprint.
"I have no choice now. We're in this together." Nickoy grabs my hand. I feel warmth, hope. I soon realize I’m blushing, although he probably can't tell because my face is already red with exhaustion. I drop his hand.
He knows I never would've gone without him. The Kilgalonese woods are really dangerous. It's so nice to have a man around to protect you from--SMACK!!
I had hit a tree branch face-first, full-speed. I scramble around on all fours to find my glasses are missing. How could I be so stupid? I must've been too busy thinking about Nickoy. A guy I've known my entire life, whom I could have thought about at any time, and I choose now to do it?
"Looking for these?" Nickoy dangles my glasses in front of my face. I look into his eyes. His big, beautiful blue eyes. Time slows down. I regain my bearings and get up, my eyes never leaving his. We stand looking at each other.
"Ella, do you want these or not?" I snap back to reality.
"Th-thanks. We better get going," and we run off into darkness.
